Asian film grand feast is held again in this city. 3rd party entitled Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival (JAFF) will be held on December 9 to 13 August 2008 at the Taman Budaya Yogyakarta seputaran and the Indonesian Institute of France. In previous years, JAFF pay attention to how the cinema played in the middle of a crisis due to natural and social disasters that cause changes in society (Cinema in The Misdt of Crisis JAFF 2006), and how cinema can provide meeting rooms symbolic various communities that experienced social dislocation due to the change process (Diaspora-JAFF 2007).JAFF again present this year, highlighting the change itself with the theme of metamorphosis.

In the realm of biology, metamorphosis, we know as the process changes a caterpillar, to chrysalis and finally into a butterfly. This term is often also a metaphor for self-reflection process to perfection. For us, metamorphosis as a major theme Jogja-NETPAC 3rd Asian Film Festival (JAFF), would reaffirm the power of cinema in spreading the values of virtue based on religiosity as well as contribute to the process of social change.

Within the last 10 years, countries in Asia experiencing tremendous political change.New Order fell in Indonesia, most ruling UMNO party in Malaysia get a challenge from the opposition, Vietnam open to American, bloodless coup in Thailand, acts of terrorism in different countries, the cold war between Islam and western countries, the increase in world oil prices etc.. All these events affect various life aspects, one of which the development of popular culture such as film.
As in previous years, JAFF mengompetisikan a number of films that compete NETPAC Award, Golden and Silver Hanuman and Geber Award. The films in competition are chosen because of its strength in raising social issues, politics and culture that is processed into a compelling cinematic narrative. In other words, the films it is a metamorphosis of the fabric of various social issues into a cinematic masterpiece that is able to evoke reflection in the context of Southeast Asian societies. JAFF opening film Kantata Takwa, which is a collaborative work of Eros Djarot and Gotot Prakosa, a good reflection for the 10-year reform process (social and political change) is now increasingly beginning to lose resonance and passion.
Changes in politics, popular culture, cinema, and religion, all have a complex relationship in the society Southeast Asia, including Indonesia. JAFF want to peel it in depth in three seminars entitled: Seeing Anew Southeast Asia: Cinema, Popular Culture and Political Change, Cinema, Media and Islam and Films for Social Movement. As a complement to the big seminar, held a workshop titled JAFF Independent Filmmaker's Guides to the Global Network. This workshop will present a Gertjan Zuilhof (Progammer Rotterdam Film Festival), Dorothée Wenner (Programmer Berlinalle Talent Campus), Kan Lume (Singaporean Filmmaker), Calida Uabumrungjit (Thai Film Foundation) as a speaker. This workshop will be followed by other 40 people were selected from 4 major cities in Indonesia, also can be followed by the public who are interested in networking with local and international filmmakers.
